Terms of Participation
The Sponsors of IHE in Europe and the national IHE European initiatives will organize and conduct a testing process culminating in
a face-to-face interoperability testing event, the Connectathon to be held April 20-24th in Vienna, Austria.
General
The purpose of the testing process and Connectathon event is to test implementation of IHE capabilities in commercially
available systems. Successful completion of the Connectathon is also a prerequisite for participation in the IHE demonstrations
in Europe.
The IHE Technical Project Managers coordinate all testing activities in the testing process and Connectathon under the supervision
of the Sponsors. The Technical Project Managers are also responsible for ensuring that all participants comply with
the terms of participation defined in this document.
The Sponsors have the responsibility for all administrative aspects of the IHE project in Europe and are the primary contact
points for all such matters.
Participants may, depending upon their previous experience, apply for Connectathon testing at two levels:
Thorough Testing: All systems and all new Profile/Actor combinations being tested for the first time shall be listed for Thorough Testing.
Systems registered for Thorough Testing will be required to complete all tests as specified by the Technical
Project Manager. Verified successful completion of tests by these systems will be published by the Sponsors in the table
of Connectathon Results.
Supportive Role Testing: Vendors applying to test systems that have been tested at previous IHE Connectathons, and for
which they have already published an IHE Integration Statement, may be listed for testing in a "Supportive Role." Systems
testing in a Supportive Role facilitate testing by corresponding systems, but are not required to complete tests and verify
test results for publication at the Connectathon. The option of testing in a Supportive Role applies only to the specific integration
profiles and actors that have been previously tested. Previously tested systems that have added new IHE capabilities
may test their established integration profile/actor combinations in a Supportive Role, while testing newly implemented
Profile/Actor combinations in Thorough Testing mode.
Participation Fees
Participation fees are proportional to the number of systems being tested and the number of IHE domains (see below) in
which these systems participate. Participation Fee is 2750 Euros for the first system, 2850 for the following ones. Domain fee is 750 Euros per domain.
A domain fee of EUR 750 will be charged per domain.
If IT-Infrastructure is a second domain for any system, no domain fee will be charged for IT-Infrastructure.
All prices (in Euros) are subject to Belgium VAT which can be reclaimed by your company
The number of company representatives at the connectathon is restricted to 2 persons per system. Additional participants
will be counted on site during the connectathon and invoiced afterwards (60 Euros per day per participant)
The technical manager has the right to assign additional domains free of charge to actors after the registration in order to enable correct
testing of profiles and if this does not result in additional preparation for the participant in question.
Domains: an IHE Domain is a specific clinical or operational area of healthcare characterized by particular information
technology needs and use cases. Each IHE Domain has its own committee structure and produces its own domain-specific
Technical Framework. A participant applying to test Actors/Integration Profiles defined in the Technical Framework for a given
IHE Domain will be considered to participate in that domain.
Participation fees are non-refundable and will be invoiced following the registration.
The IHE Review Committee, reserves the right to refuse participation to systems containing combinations of Actors it
deems to be inappropriate or not reflective of practical systems architecture. The IHE Review Committee will make this determination
in consultation with the Project Management Team. Participants may be asked to revise their applications to limit
the number and type of IHE Actors included in a single system. The IHE Review Committee is comprised of executive staff
and officers of the Sponsors.
IHE Demonstrations in Europe
Information about IHE Europe 2009 demonstrations can be obtained from the national IHE organizations.
If a system has successfully participated in a previous European connectathon and the relevant profile and national extension
has not changed since then, the National Technical Manager can admit this specific system and actor based on a specific decision
to this specific demonstration.
Participation Benefits
Testing and Connectathon: The testing process leading up to and including the Connectathon offers Participants a unique
opportunity to test IHE integration capabilities implemented in their systems and to publicize their success in implementing
these capabilities.
MESA Test Tools: MESA test tools will be made available to participants for preliminary testing in advance of the 2009
Connectathon. Access to these test tools is contingent on participation in the 2009 Connectathon testing process.
Exhibition and Promotional Effort: Each participating company will be listed in materials describing successful testing at
the 2009 Connectathon. This information will be provided to attendees of the annual meetings of each Sponsor via printed documents,
signage, multimedia presentations and the Internet.
Some of these materials will remain available throughout the 2009 calendar year (approximately) and will be distributed at
gatherings sponsored by other relevant medical professional associations.
Relevant details (as determined by the IHE Review Committee) of each company's successful participation, including all
IHE Actors and Integration profiles successfully tested, will be highlighted in these educational and promotional materials,
including the table of Connectathon Results available at www.ihe.net.
No reports of Participants' failure to complete testing will be included in these published materials.
At the Sponsors' meetings, these materials will be distributed at points of high visibility and discussed in informational
presentations.
All marketing materials of participating companies referring to IHE or incorporating IHE logos require prior review and
approval by the Sponsors.
Participant Responsibilities
The testing process and Connectathon will include the steps described below, each of which must be completed as scheduled in
order to qualify for participation in the Connectathon. There will be no refund of registration fees for Participants failing to perform
these required steps.
Participant Workshop: A workshop will be held in Vienna, Austria on Feb 2-3, 2009. The agenda will include organization of
the Connectathon testing process and the demonstration scenarios and groups of systems for the demonstrations planned in
Europe in 2009. Participants in the demonstrations are required to send a technical expert for each system registered for these
demonstrations.
DICOM Conformance Statement: Participants are required to submit a DICOM Conformance Statement for each system
that includes one or more Profile/Actors performing DICOM transactions to the IHE Technical Project Manager by March 1st,
2009. The process for submitting the documents is described on the secure page for Connectathon participants, http://
www.ihe-europe.net. While the Project Manager will not redistribute these documents, participants are free to distribute
their own documents to other participants to further facilitate cross-vendor testing.
Test logs: Participants are required to submit success logs for each Profile/Actor to be tested at the Connectathon, using the
MESA test tools provided by the Technical Project Manager, to verify that their software supports the transactions required.
These data will be generated during trials conducted by the prospective participant using the IHE Test Simulators, Test Plan
and Test Data Set to be provided by the Technical Project Managers. Additionally, Participants are required to report to the
Technical Project Mangers any problems encountered with the test tools during testing, following procedures defined by the
Technical Project Manager and posted on http://www.ihe-europe.net . For all domains, these success logs must be submitted
by March 31st, 2009.
Connectathon: Participant must send at least one qualified technical specialist to the Connectathon for each registered system
to be tested. The following additional requirements also apply:
Ship equipment to and return it from the Connectathon site at Participant's expense.
The Sponsors bear no responsibility for any damage to Participants' equipment incurred during the Connectathon or shipping
to and from the event.
All systems to be tested must be configured and operational by Monday, April 20 at 11:00 AM. At that time participants
will begin testing by sending appropriate messages to other participants systems as designated by the Technical Project
Manager.
Participants hereby agree not to disclose information learned at the Connectathon regarding other Participants' systems and
test results as outlined in the Nondisclosure Agreement below.
Participant must, prior to the conclusion of the Connectathon, successfully demonstrate interoperability with designated
partners in a number of test configurations determined by the Technical Project Managers.
Participant must successfully complete any additional interoperability testing deemed necessary by the Technical Project
Mangers and IHE Review Committee.
